During a conference on sustainable mobility held in Vigo, executives from automotive brands such as Stellantis, Hyundai, and Cupra, along with the industry association Faconauto, discussed the current challenges facing the sector. They emphasized the need to provide "certainty to users" to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, highlighting the importance of clear and stable policies that support the transition to cleaner mobility.
Leopoldo Salústregui of Hyundai Spain voiced concerns about tariffs and competition from Chinese manufacturers, while Mikel Palomera of SEAT and CUPRA pointed out the aging Spanish vehicle fleet and called for more flexible regulations to facilitate vehicle renewal. José Antonio León of Stellantis Spain noted that supply and demand are not aligned, stressing the need for better synchronization between production and market needs.
Despite the challenges, participants expressed optimism about the future of electrification and the European industry’s ability to compete globally, highlighting the importance of innovation and collaboration between the public and private sectors to achieve sustainability goals.
